The bus involved in Thursday evening’s tragic crash was one of two that had been chartered by Humboldt State to bring prospective students from the Los Angeles area to tour the campus.
Humboldt State has released the following statement on their website:
“There was a tragic accident on Thursday, April 10 involving high school students who were on a charter bus headed to Humboldt State University’s Spring Preview event. It occurred on Interstate 5 near Orland, Calif., at approximately 5:41 p.m. when a FedEx truck collided with the bus.
The CHP has confirmed that there were 10 fatalities and more than 30 injuries. No further information has been released about the victims. Injured students were taken to six hospitals in the area near the accident.
The Humboldt State community sends its deepest condolences to the friends and families of those affected. We are doing everything possible to provide support and assistance.
