Human remains found along the Sacramento River, near Scotty's Landing, in Butte County have been identified as a Red Bluff man reported missing nine years ago.

The remains were found along the west bank of the river by a Fish and Game Officer working with his dog March 8.

According to the Butte County Sheriff's Office, DNA analysis was used to identify the remains as those of Eugene Warren Shepherd, of Red Bluff. Warren was reported missing to the Red Bluff Police Department on February 3, 2006. He was 65 at the time.

No indication of foul play was discovered after an examination of the remains was conducted by Chico State Forensic Anthropologists.
