Human Remains from â??Jane Doeâ?쳌 Matches DNA from Missing Chico Woman

On January 4, 1996, 42-year-old Victorine “Vicki” Lee Pyrskalla was reported missing to the Butte County Sheriff’s Department near Taffee Lane in west Chico. Sheriff Detectives involved in the investigation believed her disappearance was suspicious based on evidence located at her residence. All known leads were followed up on but failed to provide any information as to Pyrskalla’s whereabouts.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office submitted DNA from Pyrskalla’s parents to the California Department of Justice Bureau of Forensic Services to be entered into the Missing Person Database with the hops of matching DNA to unidentified human remains.

On May 17, 2013, The Butte County Sheriff’s Department were notified that human remains of a “Jane Doe” located in Yolo County on May 25, 1996 matched the DNA samples sent in from Pyrskalla’s parents. Pyrskalla’s body was recovered in the Sacramento River on May 25, 1996 after being spotted by jet skiers near Crawdad’s Restaurant in Sacramento. The manner of death was undetermined at the time, and the cause of death was listed as probable drowning.
