Horses Struck and Killed by Van on Highway 70

Sep 16, 2013 10:52 PM

Northbound Highway 70 was closed at Garden Drive Monday night after two horses were hit and killed by a car. The accident, which happened around 8:15, blocked both lanes as CHP officers worked to rescue the family of five riding in the minivan that hit the horses. The animals had apparently escaped from a nearby pasture. One horse actually crashed through the front of the vehicle, smashing it in, pinning the driver. He was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center. The rest of the family received just minor injuries. The freeway was finally reopened around 10:15 p.m.
