Home Security Systems on the Rise

Home owners are taking a stand against burglars, as crimes throughout the north state climb. Many are now investing in home security systems, in an effort to protect themselves and their homes.
Each year in the United States, more than 2.5-million home burglaries are reported, 700 of which come from Chico. Statistics show that a burglary takes place somewhere in the U.S. every 14 seconds.
In Chico, the trend of investing in a home security system has risen substantially in last 10 years. Companies like Certified Systems install on average, 200 new systems each year. Despite the spike, studies show only 17-percent of U.S. homes are secured with a system.
New bells and whistles to the systems are attracting some new users. Most are now wireless, eliminating the burglars chance of cutting the phone lines to deactivate the alarm. The systems can be operated with remotes, they send text messages, and video alerts. An added bonus in fire protection thanks to built in smoke detectors, and a healthy rebate from home insurance companies.
The installation of a security system will run home owners anywhere from $500 to $3,000 depending on the type. The monthly bill will average around $40 per month. Not a bad price considering police will be notified within 10 seconds of a break-in.
