Highway 99 reopens near Biggs after 6 hour closure

Highway 99 near Biggs has reopened in both directions after a fatal crash forced a six hour closure Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. on Highway 99 near Biggs East Highway. According to the CHP, a big rig and four other vehicles were involved.

The big was traveling southbound on Highway 99, just south of Rio Bonito Road when the driver drifted into the northbound lane. The truck struck a 2002 Honda, killing the 33-year-old Yuba City man behind the wheel.

Three other vehicles were caught up in the crash and two other drivers were taken to Enloe Medical Center with injuries.

During the crash, one of the vehicles involved struck a power pole, knocking out service to thousands of Pacific Gas and Electric customers in the area. As of 2:15 p.m., PG&E’s website was reporting that 67 customers are still without power.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
