A portion of Highway 99, south of Yuba City, has reopened after a suspicious device forced closure of north and southbound lanes for nearly three hours Monday afternoon.

According to the Sutter County Sheriff's Office, just before 1 p.m. a passerby found a duct taped bottle with wire sticking out of it near Oswald Road, about 5 miles south of Yuba City.

A team of experts were called to examine the device, which was found to pose no threat to public safety.

Detours were set up at Barry Road and northbound Highway 99 traffic was diverted at Messick Road.
