Highway 70 in Quincy re-opened this afternoon after a 250 gallon propane tank ruptured in the middle of the road around 10 a.m.

Sheriff's officials say the Ameri-Gas tank fell off a truck and came to rest in the middle of the roadway, near Redberg. Witnesses say the tank ruptured and shot propane 100 feet into the air.

The area was sealed off and evacuations were ordered for area residents and businesses, including a nearby school.

The roadway was reopened a little after 1 p.m.
