A section of Highway 299 in Shasta County has reopened after a fatal crash between a big rig and a pickup closed the road for nearly seven hours.

The crash, which is about 30 miles east of Redding, was reported just before 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

California Highway Patrol Officers say a big rig was travelling west bound on 299, about a mile and a half west of Buzzard Roost Road, when it crossed over the double yellow lines and hit a white 2008 GMC Sierra pickup, trapping the truck and killing 43-year-old Stacy Ciulla.

The driver of the big rig has been identified as Luis Antonio Camarena, of Yakima. Camarena was hauling boxes of fruit for a trucking company out of Fontana.

Investigators say alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The roadway was reopened just after 3 p.m.
