With the current weather forecast of high winds and unseasonable low humidity’s this Thursday and Friday, CAL FIRE/Butte County Fire has increased its personnel staffing on engines and staffed the Chico Air Attack Base and Dozer through Saturday.
Butte County Air Quality District will also designate Thursday, Friday and Saturday as “No Burn Days at all elevations”.
Fire officials say that in addition to complying with the no-burn regulations, it is important that any burn piles that may have been active in the past few days be checked for hot embers and ashes from fire places and wood stoves are out cold before dumping. Unit Chief Greg McFadden says, “The high, erratic winds and predicted low humidity’s can cause even old piles to reignite and quickly spread.”
Strong North to Northeast Winds winds of 20 to 30 MPH are expected, at times gusting up to 50 MPH. These winds have the potential to down trees and tree limbs. Drivers are urged to use caution on the roads.###
