A Redding man was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle early Thursday morning after a high-speed chase on Interstate 5.

Redding Police attempted to stop a black Mitsubishi Mirage on I-5 near Knighton Road just after 2:30 a.m. for having a license plate that belonged to a trailer. The car also matched reports of a vehicle stolen just hours earlier.

The driver pulled the car over and three passengers jumped out, the driver then sped off on I-5 southbound reaching speeds of 100 mph. A spike strip was deployed by Anderson police as the driver approached the city limits. The right front tire was damaged and the car was eventually stopped on the 17600 block of Bowman Road.

The driver, 49-year-old, Darrin Mark Weston, was pulled from the car and refused to cooperate with officers. Weston repeatedly told officers to shoot him before he was taken into custody.

Weston was treated at a local hospital and later booked at the Shasta County Jail for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evasion, and resisting arrest.
