We saw a bit of rain today around the North State... and plenty more is coming our way! It's looking like a wet and windy weekend.
A weak storm moved through the North State today, bringing showers to most of us... although it wasn't too much. What this storm did that was very important, was to break down persistent high pressure over California. The "Storm Door" is now wide open... and a moist jet stream is heading our way! Look for light rain to begin Friday afternoon, and continue Saturday. Late Saturday afternoon, an impulse in this moist flow will arrive here. That will rapidly increase the rain and winds! We'll see the rain turn heavy Saturday night, and winds will gust 40 to 50 mph in the Valley... It will be a very wet and windy Saturday night! Snow levels will start around 6000' Friday, and stay there through Saturday evening. By Sunday, colder air will arrive, and that will lower snow levels down to near 3500'. The heavy rain Saturday night will turn to lighter rain Sunday, and the winds will diminish, although we should still see gusts near 25 mph. By Monday, things will be calming down... look for just a few scattered showers, with a slight chance of a weak thunderstorm. I still think we'll see between 1.5" and 3" of rain in the Valley this weekend!
We'll get a break on Tuesday, but that won't last long. Showers will move back on in Wednesday, and rain returns Thursday and Friday. Snow levels will rise back up a bit.
So, after a relatively quiet February and beginning to March... Stormy weather is about to return!
