High pressure has strengthened over California, and temperatures jumped up about 10 degrees as a result. A gusty north wind helped out as well, bringing 20 to 30 mph gusts in the Valley on Thursday. Those winds will subside overnight, but with high pressure strengthening even further, look for Valley highs to be in the 100 to 105 range this weekend. A little cooler next week... but not much.
A bit of monsoon moisture will rotate northward by early next week, giving the mountains a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. The best bet would be in the Sierra Nevada.
