The Eloe Cancer Center is hosting its annual Healing Art Reception tonight, October 9th, from 4:30 - 6 p.m.
It will feature the artwork of a true pioneer in the field of arts and healing, Bay Area artist Gina Rose Halpern. She's been involved as a leader in many national and international organizations for arts in healing, she's a board certified chaplain who has used art at the bedside of patients, and most recently she has been creating exquisite art as a way to navigate her own cancer treatment and recovery.
According to Enloe Cancer Support Program Coordinator Rebecca Senoglu, research has shown that expressive arts like music and visual art can help decrease anxiety, restore emotional balance, reduce pain levels. It can distract us from our discomfort, express things we feel when words fail us, and uplift our spirits even when our bodies are struggling.
The reception tonight will show Gina Rose talking about her work via a pre-corded video as well as a talk from the current artist featured in the Cancer Center Gallery, Jane King
The halls are filled with art from the Lilly Oncology on Canvas exhibition and there will be live music, and refreshments.
It is all free and open to the public.
