A Happy Valley man is in custody in Shasta County after he allegedly fired two shots at a man in his garage Saturday night.
Around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, authorities say 25-year-old Duane Parmenter fired two shots from a handgun at a man in his garage, but missed.
According to a news release from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Johnny Martinez, along with Duane Parmenter's brother went to a home on Lassen Avenue in Happy Valley. The three men were drinking alcohol and smoke marijuana in the garage when Parmenter began acting strange and pulled out a handgun.
He started yelling at Martinez, asking why he was in the garage. The three men got into a fight, and Parmenter eventually calmed down.
A few minutes later Martinez was left in the garage alone with Parmenter. He tried to leave, but Parmenter again pulled out the gun and threatened to shoot him. A second struggle ensued and two shots were fired. Fortunately nobody was injured.
Martinez was able to escape the house and call the sheriff's office. Parmenter was arrested and a .25 caliber handgun was confiscated. He has been booked into the Shasta County Jail for attempted murder.
