Authorities surveying damage from the Happy Camp Fire that has been raging for weeks in the Klamath National Forest say it has destroyed four homes.
Kerry Greene, a spokeswoman for the fire says two homes were destroyed this week when winds fueled the blaze. Another two homes were destroyed earlier. The fire has also damaged or destroyed four other buildings.
U.S. Forest Service spokesman Rudy Evenson says 274 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders, and at least that many people have been told to be ready to leave home if the fire worsens.
The blaze has consumed 164 square miles of timber since it began last month and continues to challenge firefighters trying to get a handle on it. It is 30 percent contained.
