Hamilton City track coach in court

Former Hamilton City assistant track coach Joshua Hernandez’s preliminary hearing has been delayed until April 2.

Hernandez was in court for just a short time when lawyers asked that the hearing be delayed because there was new evidence that had to be reviewed.

The next hearing is scheduled for April 2 in Orland.

The 23-year-old was arrested February 19, 2014 after a student reported inappropriate sexual text messages between a minor student at the high school and Hernandez. During their investigation, detectives learned Hernandez had reportedly arranged to meet one of the students after school hours and suspect sexual activity between the two allegedly occurred.

According to the sheriff’s department, a search of Hernandez’s cell phone reportedly revealed several explicit photos of unclothed minors. It is unknown how many minors are involved with the case.

Hernandez remains in custody at the Glenn County Jail.
