Joshua Kelly Hernandez, a 23-year-old assistant track coach at Hamilton City High School, was arrested and booked into the Glenn County Jail on suspicion of committing sexual communications and acts with minors at the school.

The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office was first contacted about the incident by a student who reported inappropriate sexual text messages between a minor student at the high school and Hernandez. During their investigation, detectives learned Hernandez had reportedly arranged to meet one of the students after school hours and suspect sexual activity between the two allegedly occurred.

Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones confirmed this morning the alleged sexual act did occur on school grounds.

After Hernandez was interviewed around 4:30 p.m. yesterday, he was taken into custody on suspicion of contact with a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense, sexual penetration with a foreign object with a minor, sending obscene matter depicting a minor as well as oral copulation with a person under the age of 18.

According to the sheriff’s department, a search of Hernandez’s cell phone reportedly revealed several explicit photos of unclothed minors.

Jones said today it has not yet been determined if Hernandez will face child pornography charges because the case is still ongoing and has not been sent to the district attorney’s office who may add those additional charges. The number of minors involved in the case is unknown at this time.

The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office has stated the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s department immediately.
