Gunman on the loose after Trinity County murder

Authorities in Trinity County are searching for a gunman who shot two people, killing one and seriously injuring the other.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the area of Lamb Creek Road in Mad River around 4:30 p.m. Monday. At the scene they found two gunshot victims, one was dead, the other was airlifted to an area hospital.

A few minutes later, a deputy spotted a vehicle on State Route 36 in the Forest Glen area that was determined to have be connected.

The vehicle was unoccupied, but the deputy reported hearing gunfire nearby, according to the Trinity County Sheriff's Office.

The Forest Glen area was searched by several law enforcement agencies, while other units warned the public that there was an active shooter in the area.

The gunman was never located, but he's described by witnesses as having a dark complexion, and was wearing a black shirt, he is approximately 30 years-old, 5 feet 8 inches and 160-175 pounds with dark short curly hair and goes by the name of Scotty.
