After years of staring down the barrel of uncertainty, a North State shooting range is finally open. And so far, business is booming.
“We have 12 lanes. It’s 25 yards where you can shoot pistols, rifles and shotguns,” said Will Clark, Down Range Indoor Training Center CEO. “Yes, you can shoot your rifles here.”
Located off Highway 99 on Garner Lane in Chico, Down Range Indoor Training Facility is only the shooting range of this size and caliber for miles.
“From the Oregon border all the way down to past Sacramento people can come in and use our facility to train,” Clark said. “Also, we have state’s longest indoor archery lane at a full 50 yards.”
At Down Range, they believe if you own a firearm you should have proper training to use it. And with professional instructors with backgrounds in law enforcement, the military and the NRA the training at Down Range is right on target. But this kind of marksmanship isn't just for men.
“A firearm is a great equalizer for a lady when it comes to protecting herself from violence,” Clark said.
And that is exactly what Susan Cook of Magalia is doing here: loading up on proper training techniques and putting extra confidence in her crosshairs.
“I’m getting more and more confident every time I come out there,” the Magalia resident said of practicing using her handguns. “It gives me a sense of security but I don’t ever want to step out there and be a hero.”
Down Range Indoor Training Center will host an official grand opening ribbon shooting ceremony Saturday, May 31 at 10 a.m.
