The Gulch Fire, burning more than 500 acres in Jones Valley, northeast of Redding, has forced evacuations in the Jones Valley area.
The fire was declared 80 percent contained at 40 acres this morning, then jumped containment lines shortly afternoon.
IT is threatening homes in the area of Aloha Road and Blue Sky Road, 15 miles northeast of Redding. Highway 299 was closed earlier in the day at Aloha Road but reopened late in the day.
Evacuations have been ordered for Woodman Lane, Dusty Oaks Trail, Aloha Road, Blue Sky Road, Holiday Way and all roads off of Holiday Road.
The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro.
Investigators believe a vehicle sparked the fire.
