PAHOA, Hawaii (AP) - The Hawaii National Guard is sending troops to the town of Pahoa, on the Big Island, as lava makes a slow crawl toward a major road and threatens to further isolate the community.

More than 80 troops will help provide security and help with a roadblock and other safety issues.

Lava from the Kilauea volcano has been sliding toward the ocean since June.

Last month, scientists said it was two weeks away from hitting Pahoa's main road. So far it's consumed a shed, but no homes.
