The 53rd annual Red Suspenders Days take place in Gridley Saturday with a day full of fun activities for the whole family.
A pancake Breakfast gets it started in Daddow Park on Virginia Street from 7 - 9:30 a.m., provided by the Knights of Columbus and Masons, with proceeds going to the Gridley Little League. The cost is $5.
The annual Bed Races begin at 10:30 a.m. and so does the Pie Eating Contest. Both events take place on Virginia Street, Between Hazel and Sycamore Streets.
The Big Red Suspenders Day Parade gets underway at 11 a.m. in Downtown Gridley, witha flyover by the Enloe and Butte County Sheriff's helicopters. There are 30 Community entries, including 3 marching bands ... and 25 to 30 equipment entries from area fire and law enforcement departments. The event is centered in firefighting ... hence the "Red Suspenders" title.
Following the parade is a Fireman's muster on Washington Street between Sycamore and Magnolia Streets along with a display of Fire and EMS equipment. There will be a bucket brigade, "candy search and rescue" for kids, a Firefighter Fitness Challenge and a live "real time" demonstration of a rescue extraction.
There will also be 65 Vender Booths in Rotary park, along with pony rides, a bounce house, and face painting.
It all wraps up with the Gridley Museum BBQ Dinner Fundraiser on Hazel Street, across from the Hazel Street Hotel. It is from 4-7 p.m., the cost is $20.
