Just days after a 14-year-old girl was struck and killed by a pickup truck while walking to school, Gridley officials are making the busy street crossing a safer place.

On Friday, 14-year-old Yamara Elizondo died at the intersection of Gridley Road and Fairview Drive, she was on her way to Gridley High School.

On Tuesday night, the Gridley City Council approved the installation of new signs, called ‘Pede Warning Lights,’ that officials say will have blinking lights that will be activated by anyone crossing.

The new lights are expected to be installed by the end of next week.
