A Gridley man has died after suffering severe burns to his body in a fire that started in his backyard Sunday morning.
According to his family, Glen Burgess, 90, succumbed to his injuries Sunday afternoon at UC Davis Regional Burn Center.
The man suffered burns to 60 percent of his body, according to the Cal-Fire emergency report.
Investigators say the man was burning a pile of leaves and sticks, which may have ignited his wheelchair which spread to his clothes.
Family members say the man got around by using his wheelchair because he had Parkinson disease.
Burgess was a World War II Veteran and lived in Gridley all his life.
