The 38th annual Great American Smokeout provides smokers a chance to learn more about how to quit smoking cigarettes and help them make a plan to begin a smoke-free life. The Smokeout will be held on Thursday, November 21 at the Sears parking lot in the Mt. Shasta mall in Redding. The event runs from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Tobacco use remains the single most preventable cause of disease and premature death in the U.S., but nearly 44 million Americans still smoke, according to the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Former tobacco users will be interviewed by Q97 FM’s Billy and Patrick at the event from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. while free “Quit Kits” will be distributed throughout the entirety of the event.
Free “Quit Kits” will also be available at the Shasta County Health and Human Services Regional Offices in Redding, Enterprise, the City of Shasta Lake, Anderson and Burney.
