The Butte County Probation Department has received a grant they say will help them zero in on repeat DUI offenders.
The $196,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety will be used to monitor drivers convicted of felony and repeat misdemeanor driving under the influence charges.
Felony and repeat misdemeanor DUI offenders are prevalent in crashes that involve alcohol, often with tragic results. In 2013, 11 people were killed and 169 were injured in such crashes, according to a news release from the Butte County Probation Department.
The grant will pay for unannounced home searches, random alcohol and drug testing, and increased monitoring to ensure compliance with court ordered programs.
