Governor appoints new Judge in Trinity County

Governor Jerry Brown today today announced the appointment of Michael B. Harper to a judgeship in the Trinity County Superior Court.

Harper, who is 47, is from Weaverville and has served as Trinity County's District Attorney since 2007. He was a deputy district attorney with Trinity county before that, and also worked as a prosecutor in Sacramento and Placer Counties.

Harper earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge James P. Woodward. Harper is a Democrat.

Harper did not run for re-election in June. Deputy District Attorney Eric Heryford was elected Trinity County District Attorney.
