Government panel urges end to phone data spying

WASHINGTON (AP) - A government task force that reviewed the National Security Agency's surveillance program is releasing a report today that urges President Barack Obama to stop the NSA's bulk collection of Americans' telephone data.

The recommendation by the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board is even more sweeping than a similar proposal from another panel of experts that advised Obama to restrict phone surveillance to limited court-ordered sweeps.
