The world's most popular search engine will be greeting its millions of users with a new look. Google announced Tuesday that it's changing its familiar multicolored "Google" logo to keep up with the times.

In a post on its corporate blog, Google said the change was driven by shifts in the way people use digital devices, especially mobile ones, in today's world.

"We've taken the Google logo and branding, which were originally built for a single desktop browser page, and updated them for a world of seamless computing across an endless number of devices and different kinds of inputs (such as tap, type and talk)," the statement said.

The company said it believes the new design reflects "the best of Google (simple, uncluttered, colorful, friendly)."

Google also posted a video to illustrate how its look and business have evolved in the 17 years since the company was founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page -- from a simple search interface to a wide-reaching tech behemoth involved in everything from email, phones and mobile operating systems to artificial intelligence and self-driving cars.
