Golden Gate ferry workers strike over contract

LARKSPUR, Calif. (AP) - Golden Gate Ferry workers have walked off the job, forcing thousands of commuters to find other ways to travel between Marin County and San Francisco.

Friday's one-day strike was scheduled to shut down service at the Larkspur, Sausalito and San Francisco terminals. Ferry service to Friday's Giants game at AT&T Park will be impacted.

At the Larkspur terminal, several ferries remained tied to the dock while about two dozen workers picketed outside.

California Highway Patrol officials told the San Francisco Chronicle the strike didn't appear to affect the morning commute on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Golden Gate Transit buses between Marin and San Francisco were operating, though the agency cancelled 12 bus trips after 12 drivers called in sick.

Golden Gate ferries transport up to 9,000 people on weekdays.
