Are the streets of Placerville, California paved with gold?
It may be partially true. City crews working on a sewer line on Main Street last week found gold flakes mixed in with the dirt they were excavating.
Historical artifacts from Placerville's early days as a gold rush town were also found.
Still, the gold fever is already cooling a bit.
By order of the city manager all the dirt mixed with gold , and even the artifacts found in the big dig, will be headed back to the ground from where it came. The city claims the sewer upgrade has already been costly and there's not enough gold in these streets worth removing.
