A travel center that is expected to boost Orland’s economy by creating 70 new jobs has cleared its final hurdle and construction is expected to start this fall.
Just over a month after the Orland City Council unanimously voted to support a proposed Pilot Flying J Travel Center along Interstate 5 at Newville Road, the Glenn County Local Agency Formation Commission gave approval to the annexation of 31 acres of Glenn County land to the City of Orland.
Revenue from sales taxes and property taxes will support both city and county services under a tax sharing agreement set in place earlier this year.
The travel center, which is expected to open in the spring of 2016, will bring roughly 70 new jobs and a payroll of nearly $1 million to Orland.
