Oroville Gleaners continues to grow.

175 members make use of the program, which provides cheap, and sometimes expired food to those 50 years and older.

Members pay a one-time fee of $15, and then a $25 monthly fee.

Gleaners President Virginia Harvey says often times, members are grandparents who take care of grandchildren.

Other times, it's retired folks on a fixed income or social security.

“Back in the olden days, you'd go out to a farmer’s field, and pick what the farmer didn't take,” Floor Manager Bill Clements said. “Today we buy our stuff. But we do the research to go find out where we can get it at a real good bargain.”

Oroville Gleaners recently waived the age restriction for any returning veterans who need help.

They signed up seven new members last week.

If you’d like to volunteer, Harvey said the best thing would be to show up at their location, Friday mornings from 8-9:30. Their address is 4532 Pacific Heights Road, Oroville, 95965.
