The Girls on the Run Butte County program is celebrating it's five year anniversary Sunday, January 31st ... with the 1st Annual "GOTR - Palooza".
Girls on the Run is a program for girls in 3rd through 8th grades. The GOTR website describes the group as a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program. It teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
The GOTR-Palooza benefit will take place Sunday from 3 - 6 p.m. at the Chico Women's Club, 592 E. 3rd Street. It includes appetizers, a no host bar, music and a silent auction. The cost is $25 per person. For more information on the benefit and GOTR call (530) 636-0786 or visit www.gotrbuttecounty.org.
The Butte County GOTR program has grown to 400 girls, and is expanding to Glenn County this year ... so the name will be changing to Girls on the Run Northstate. Registration is now underway as the next session begins in February. You can check the website to see which schools are taking part, and the non profit is always seeking more volunteer coaches.
