SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Police say a fiery rollover crash in Southern California was caused by a 100-pound bull mastiff puppy leaping around inside the car.
Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna tells the Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/1O3if0R ) Wednesday that bystanders pulled both the man and the dog safely from the wreck.
The man told investigators that the dog named Mastis jumped from the backseat to the front before the Tuesday night crash, pushing the driver and forcing him to hit the center median and lose control.
The car flipped over and ended up engulfed in flames.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was scraped and bleeding but the injuries were minor. The dog also had a few minor scrapes.
Bertagna says drivers need to make sure they secure their dogs while the car is moving.
