Gas prices in Chico have fallen all the way to $2.27 a gallon while the national average looks to be headed under the $2 mark in the next week.

Average retail gasoline prices in Chico have fallen 6.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.27. Including the change in prices last week, prices were 116 cents lower than the same day one year ago.

In Redding, prices dropped from nearly 8 cents in the last week, down to $2.42 a gallon.

According to, this is the week the national average will return to $1.99. Motorists shouldn't expect the low prices for long though, refineries have been processing less crude oil and thus producing less gasoline, which will contribute to a soft bottoming out of the national average before a small recovery back in the very low $2's.
