A report of a gas leak has prompted authorities to close off the area of Tehama and East Streets in downtown Redding Thursday night.
According to Mike Wood of Redding PD, it was reported just after 9 p.m. He says construction crews working in the area ruptured the gas line. Streets in the immediate vicinity of Tehama and East were closed Thursday evening.
Door to door evacuations took place in surrounding areas. The evacuation center is located at University Preperatory School.
Shasta Regional Medical Center is staying in place and ambulances are being rerouted to Mercy Medical Center.
PG&E crews are working with construction crews to fix the ruptured line.
