The upcoming "Dinner on the Stage" benefit for the historic State Theatre in Oroville will kick off fundraising for a major capital improvement project, to restore the theatre to its former glory.

Hosted by the State Theatre Arts Guild (STAGE), the evening will include nostalgia, great food and beverages, as well as a silent auction, on the theatre stage. It takes place Saturday May 16th with champagne and hors d'oeuvres starting at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

STAGE is all volunteer and is now in charge of day to day operations at the theatre, which is owned by the City of Oroville. Stage has paid all of the bills, and the event on the 16th will kick off a 3 1/2 million dollar capital improvement funding campaign, to restore the theatre to the way it was when it opened in 1928.

The hope is it will serve as a performing arts center and help revive Oroville's Downtown District.

Tickets are $150 per person. You can buy them by calling (530) 370-1273.

Meanwhile, the Youth Orchestra of Chico will perform at the theatre this Friday, May 1st, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available online at Students of all ages can attend for free.
