FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Fresno County supervisors have taken the first step toward banning marijuana growing countywide.
The Fresno Bee says (http://bit.ly/1aULJGS ) the unanimous vote Tuesday sets the stage for what is a likely final approval at the Jan. 7 board meeting.
In opting for a complete ban, supervisors passed on another option that would have banned outdoor growing and allowed indoor cultivation of up to six mature or 12 immature pot plants.
Medicinal marijuana users voiced their displeasure after the vote. They said making marijuana grows illegal won't stop the practice, but would only force it underground and encourage a black market.
But supporters said pot farms are taking over the foothill hamlet.
