A Union Pacific freight train derailed Friday evening in South Siskiyou County. According to Union Pacific, it happened around 6:15 p.m. about two miles north of Dunsmuir. The good news is there were no injuries and because the cars were empty there was no spill of any kind. A total of six rail cars are on their side, two are standing. The tracks are completely blocked so no rail traffic can get through. There is no word on when the track will re-open. Also, there is no word on what may have caused the derailment.
