The Active Aging Community Task Force is sponsoring a free exercise instructor training on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 9:00 a.m - 3:30 p.m.
The instructor training focuses on how to teach balance and strength exercises modified for seniors. The training is offered to anyone interested in volunteering to teach a Fun with Senior Fitness class. Prior teaching experience is not necessary to attend the training and teach the classes. Iris Benton, Certified Group Instructor with American Council on Exercise and several local instructors will be leading the training workshop.
There are 25 locations in Shasta County with ongoing Fun with Senior Fitness classes. Classes are offered free or low-cost to seniors age 50 years and older. Volunteer instructors are needed throughout Shasta County.
Fun with Senior Fitness Program is made up of local residents and professionals who promote and teach physical activity for seniors. Older adults who have regular physical activity have better balance, live more independently and are less likely to fall.
Pre-registration is required. Call 275-5305 to register for the Fun with Senior Fitness volunteer instructor training or for a schedule of existing classes.
