PARIS (AP) - French officials say a 24-year-old computer science student has been arrested before he could carry out an attack on one or more French churches.

Officials say the man was arrested Sunday after he apparently shot himself by accident and called for an ambulance.

They describe him as an Islamic extremist from Algeria, who already had been flagged by security officials as a risk.

Authorities say the man is also accused in the death of a woman found shot and killed in her car Sunday morning.
