The Butte County anti-fracking group, Frack-Free Butte County says they have collected enough signatures to place an anti-fracking ordinance on the November ballot.
The group needed to collect more than 7,600 signatures by June 1st, and Friday they announced they have collected more than 10,000.
Frack-Free Butte County organizers and supporters are concerned about water contamination, earthquake and health risks, and depleting California's water supply during the state's current drought.
If the petitions are certified by the county Clerk-Recorder’s Office, the county board can either adopt the ordinance or place the measure on the November ballot.
In April the Butte County board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to draft an ordinance to ban fracking.
