A former Oroville teacher's aide has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for molesting children at a local elementary school.

Youlee Lee Vang, 55, formerly of Oroville, was convicted in May of molesting four children while he worked as a para-educator with Hmong students at Poplar Avenue School in Oroville.

The investigation began in 2011 when a former student told Butte County Sheriff's Deputies Vang repeatedly molested her over a two year period in a classroom on the Poplar Campus.

The sheriff's office uncovered three additional victims who attended Poplar between 2005 and 2009. The victims told authorities those molestations also happened on school grounds, with the exception of one incident that was at a private home.

Vang left his job with the Thermalito Union School District and moved to Alaska in 2010. A detective from the sheriff's office traveled to Alaska in early 2013 to interview Vang, and then arrested him.

In addition to receiving the maximum 24 year sentence, Vang will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
