A former Orland postal worker is facing a felony embezzlement charge for allegedly stealing people’s mail back in 2013.
Megan Chavez Jensen is accused of stealing mail from as many as 60 people, taking gift cards, checks and cash.
Glenn County District Attorney Dwayne Stewart says the alleged crimes happened in 2013, and in the past Jensen would have faced several felony charges, but under Proposition 47 all thefts were re-classified as misdemeanors.
Because of Prop. 47, and statute of limitations, Stewart decided instead to charge Jensen with a single felony count of embezzlement by a postal worker.
Jensen was arraigned Tuesday and will be back in court August 5 for a preliminary hearing.
