A former Butte County correctional officer accused of having sexual contact with inmates pleaded not guilty to criminal charges Friday morning.

Timothy James Hill, 27, has been charged with sexual activity with an inmate in a detention facility, indecent exposure, and sexual battery.

According to the Butte County Sheriff's Office, Hill, who worked as a correctional officer from November 2012 until July 2014, exposed himself to at least one female inmate, inappropriately touched another and encouraged inmates to expose themselves to him.

Hill will reappear in court September 2. He is currently out of custody.
