Former Police Chief Mike Dunbaugh is returning to his old post... temporarily.

He is now in his first week serving as interim Police Chief.

Through the nationwide recruitment process for a new Police Chief, Dunbaugh will head the department.

Chief Dunbaugh's law enforcement career began in Santa Cruz in 1974. He started as a patrol officer and worked his way through the ranks. From 1992 to 1996 Dunbaugh served as Chief of Police for the City of Chico before taking the Chief position in Santa Rosa. With the blessing of his family... he was happy to return from retirement.

In addition to focusing on the budget and training, staffing is one of his top priorities.
Despite reductions the department has incurred, if given the opportunity he plans to revamp services, aimed at focusing on a community oriented policing approach

The recruitment process is underway to find a permanent Police Chief.
