SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A former California fire battalion chief has pleaded not guilty to fatally stabbing his girlfriend.

The body of 26-year-old Sarah June Douglas was found May 1 inside the south Sacramento home she had shared for two years with Orville Fleming.

Fleming, who is 56, entered the not guilty plea Monday in Sacramento County Superior Court. He faces a preliminary hearing Dec. 16.

He was arrested following a two-week manhunt. He taught at the department's fire academy in Ione, about 40 miles southeast of Sacramento.

Fleming's estranged wife said she viewed a video showing the victim, a former escort, having sex with her husband and other firefighters on fire trucks.

Detectives said they never found the video, but the allegation prompted a California Highway Patrol investigation that remains ongoing.
