Forest Watch camera system provides early fire detection in Butte County

Cal Fire Butte County has added another line of defense for fighting wildfires.
The new "Forest Watch" camera system provides 24 hour, 7 day a week coverage throughout Butte County.

The cameras are located throughout the county, with remote access to a 15 mile, 360 degree panoramic view. They'll not only be able to decrease response times in case of a fire, they'll be able to pinpoint an exact location to dispatch resources.

In the event of a fire Chief Officers can go online and switch to a live video mode, to zoom into the location of the smoke. They'll help determine how significant a fire is and how to allocate resources.
